2023-24 School Year Enrollment: 79 8th-grade students welcomed in Sussex County schools

There were 79 8th-grade students enrolled in Sussex County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 9.2% fewer than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Sussex Central Middle School was the only school that welcomed 8th-grade students in the county.

Within Sussex County schools, the largest number of students were found in 9th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Sussex County ranked 118th in enrollment numbers. It was also ranked 118th the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
