How many students were enrolled in Surry County schools for 2023-24 school year?

There were 694 students enrolled in Surry County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 1.3% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

In terms of gender distribution, the student body in Surry County comprised 53.3% boys, with girls representing 46.3%, while 0.4% of the students did not specify their gender or identify with either category.

Data also showed that Black or African American students made up 43.4% of the student body, the largest percentage in Surry County schools, followed by white students with 43.4%, 6.1% Hispanic students and 0.4% Asian students.

Surry Elementary School had the highest enrollment among Surry County's three schools in the 2023-24 school year, welcoming 283 students.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools have an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1, slightly better than the national average of 15:1. Minority students, primarily Hispanic and Black, make up 54% of the enrollment, while white students constitute 46%.
