Surry County's districts student body comprised mostly of white students in 2023-24 school year

White students comprised the largest ethnic group in Surry County districts during the 2023-24 school year, according to reports from the Virginia Department of Education.

Of the 694 students attending Surry County district schools, 43.4% were white. Black made up the second largest ethnic group, comprising 43.4% of the student population.

In the previous school year, Black students were the most common group in Surry County districts, representing 46.3% of the student body.

In the 2023-24 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the county increased by 1.3% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Surry County.

As of November 2023, according to Public School Review, in the 2023-24 school year, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
