The VSU Volleyball team put away the Lions of Lincoln University in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-10).
Game Notes
- Helena Eubanks earned her third straight double-digit kill match as she ended with 10 with a .588 hitting percentage. Kennedy Hoge and Alexis McNair both added seven kills. This is the third straight game with seven kills.
- Leyla Conley earned a career-high and a match-high five aces in the contest.
- Kelsea Saulny led the match with three blocks.
- Makenzy Johnson finished with 16 assists and while Emma Quarles accumulated 10.
- Kennedy Hoge led the team with 11 digs.
- The Trojans set new season-highs in hitting percentage with a .356.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The match started with the visiting Lincoln Lions earning the early lead 7-4. The Trojans would combat that with a 7-2 run headlined by kills from Kennedy Hoge, Helena Eubanks and Alexis McNair to take an 11-9 lead. As the two teams continued to battle, the score came to 15 all. The Trojans were able to gain a little breathing room going ahead 21-19 with kills from Alexis McNair and Helena Eubanks. The Trojans scored eight of the last nine points to take set one 25-19.
SET 2 | As set two started out extremely competitive with ties at three, four and six. With the score tied at eight the Trojans scored eight points straight to take a 16-8 lead. The Trojans would continue to control the set 21-10 after an ace by Leyla Conley and a kill by Amaya Cooper. Alexis McNair contributed a pair of kills to end set two 25-11.
SET 3 | The third set started with a 11-2 run. Leyla Conley earned three straight service aces to take a 20-7. Helena Eubanks helped lead her team to victory as she earned a pair of kills to earn the win in set three 25-10.
What's Next
The Trojans will hit I-95 to Richmond, VA on Monday, October 17 for a date with their rivals in Virginia Union. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
