COUNTY TO HOST BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT

Prince George County will host its Annual Back to School Event on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 4 pm to 7 pm. at Scott Memorial Park, 6680 Courthouse Rd, Prince George, VA. The goal of this event is to assist the families of Prince George County with school supplies and information to aid parents with positive ways to help give children a good start to a productive school year. One backpack will be given out per child. Children should be present to receive a backpack.

“In years past, we have received a great deal of support from individuals, local businesses, churches and civic organizations and look forward to the continued support to make this event a success” said Michelle Bennet, Social Services Deputy Director. We are in need of monetary donations, as well as donations of school supplies and backpacks for elementary and secondary schools.

While the event is led by Social Services, all County Departments, organizations and individual citizens have come together to make this event a success. “We are still dealing with the effect of the pandemic and families are dealing with the loss of income.  Inflation has increased the cost of everyday items and it is our hope to alleviate some of the financial burden by assisting with school supplies” said Bertha Judge, Social Services Director. County Departments come together as a team with this event and help meet the need of the citizens of Prince George County. The county’s website has the Back to School flyer and the school supply list so that all can see the need and the items we will be purchasing with donated funds. Supplies can also be dropped off at Social Services, Police Department, Prince George Library, School Board Office, Parks and Rec, and the Farmer’s Market.

In 2021, the county distributed 890 backpacks thanks to the generous donations from the community. With the return to Scott Memorial Park, we are excited to have a variety of vendors, entertainment, and games for the family.

The county thanks you in advance for your support for its efforts to make sure local children have a positive start to the school year. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Bertha Judge, Social Services Director or Michelle Bennett, Deputy Director, at Prince George Social Services, at (804) 733-2650 ext. 5272.
