Surry County schools welcomed 43 7th-grade students in 2023-24 school year

There were 43 7th-grade students enrolled in Surry County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 28.3% fewer than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Luther P. Jackson Middle School was the only school that welcomed 7th-grade students in the county.

Within Surry County schools, the largest number of students were found in 6th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Surry County ranked 128th in enrollment numbers. It was also ranked 128th the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
