BOARD OF SUPERVISORS NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

NOTICE is hereby given that the Surry County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a public hearing on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. or shortly thereafter for the purpose of receiving public comment regarding a proposed amendment to the current Surry County ordinance related to the exemption of taxes on property for elderly and disabled persons, as authorized by Section 58.1- 3210 et seq., of the Code of Virginia. The proposed amendment will increase the total combined income from all sources of the owners of the dwelling from $35,000 to $45,000 and increases the combined net worth to $125,000, such changes to become effective on January 1, 2023. The proposed ordinance also re- moves the proportional tax exemption and will allow the real estate tax liability on the dwelling, up to 1 acre, to be limited to a maximum tax exemption of $1,000.00. This proposed change, will become effective upon adoption. The public hearing shall be held in the General District Courtroom at the Surry County Government Center, located at 45 School Street, Surry, Virginia 23883.

A full copy of the Ordinance may be obtained on the Surry County website at www.surrycountyva.gov, or a copy of the materials may be reviewed in the Office of the County Administrator, Surry County Government Center, 45 School Street, Surry, Virginia.
