The VSU Volleyball team took care of business against their cross-town rivals in Virginia Union in straight sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-22) to earn their second win in-a-row.
Game Notes
- Helena Eubanks led the team yet again with 11 kills while Amaya Cooper earned her fifth double-digit kill match of the season with 10 on a .381 hitting percentage.
- For the second match straight, Najlaa Williams earned two service aces which allowed her to lead the team.
- Kelsea Saulny has really been coming into her own the past few matches as she ends with a match-high and career-high five blocks along four kills.
- Emma Quarles led the match with 26 assists in the win.
- Kennedy Hoge led the team with 18 digs while Najlaa Williams accounted for 16.
- The Trojans held the Panthers to under a .100 hitting percentage in two of three sets.
SET 1 | The first set of the match saw the Trojans earn the early edge as Taniyah Epps and Kennedy Hoge led the team to a 6-2 lead. The Panthers would go on to capitalize on the mistakes of the Trojans to score seven straight points to take a 10-7 lead. The match saw five ties until the Trojans earned a little breathing room at 18-15. Helena Eubanks single handily ended the set herself earning the last five points for the Trojans behind five straight kills. VSU took set one 25-19.
SET 2 | The Panthers were able to score five points straight to take a 7-5 lead. The Trojans were able to combat that with a 7-0 run of their own to take a 12-7 lead. The Trojans were able to build on their lead as back-to-back kills from Amaya Cooper extended their lead to 20-13. The Trojans would score five of the last six points of the set as Helena Eubanks earned the final point of the set once again with the final score of set tow being 25-15
SET 3 | Following four ties to start the third set, the Trojans were able to gain a little breathing room thanks to back-to-back kills by Taniyah Epps. The Trojans later went on a 6-1 run to extend their lead to 16-11. As VSU pushed thier lead to 21-16, the Panthers scored six points straight to take a 22-21 lead. The Trojans went on to score four points straight as Kennedy Hoge led the way with a pair of kills while Amaya Cooper had one. Virginia State earned the win in set three 25-22.
What's Next
The Trojans have a tall task ahead of them as they will attempt to give the Shaw Bears just their second loss in conference play. Earning sweeps in their past two matches, the Trojans are primed for a marquee win this season. The matchup is slated for Friday, October 21 at 6:00 p.m. inside the VSU Multipurpose center.
