A drunk driver was arrested Thursday evening after falling asleep in traffic in North Stafford.
On June 9th at 6:10 p.m. Sergeant D.T. Aubrecht and Deputy E.E. West responded to an intoxicated driver complaint on Courthouse Road near the I-95 divergent diamond. A witness reported the driver of a white Mercedes was slumped over the steering wheel while stopped at a green light. The witness got out to check on the other driver, and the driver woke up, acknowledged he was good, and drove on.
Sgt. Aubrecht located the Mercedes and a traffic stop was initiated at the nearby Publix. Ironically, the vehicle stopped in front of the Virginia ABC store. The driver was identified as Richard Sellers, 46, of Ruther Glen. Sellers was arrested by Deputy West and charged with DUI, refusal, obstruction, open container and failure to maintain the lane of travel. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Thank you to the alert witness for helping to keep our roads safe.
Drive sober or get pulled over.
