County of Prince George issued the following announcement on Oct. 29
This message is a monthly update in 2021 to better inform our citizens and visitors to our website. The information serves as a status report for ongoing projects, and also serves as a preview to different happenings that are in the planning stages.
County Government offices will be closed Tuesday, November 2 in observance of the General Election. Offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 3. Voting precincts will open November 2 at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
County Government offices will be closed Thursday, November 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day. Offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Friday, November 12.
County Government offices will be closed Wednesday, November 23 at 12:30 p.m.; and Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Offices will reopen Monday, November 29.

The Prince George Food Bank at the Central Wellness Center is open Tuesdays & Fridays from 10 a.m. – 12:00 Noon. Please note, the Food Bank will be closed on Tuesday, November 2 for Election Day.
The Board of Supervisors will hold its regular meetings this month on Tuesday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 23 in the Boardroom. The meetings will begin at 7 p.m.
A Worksession will precede the November 9 BOS meeting at 6 p.m. to discuss the following items: (1) Virginia Gateway Region presentation; (2) Update on Public Safety projects; and (3) Update on expansion of the Vehicle Maintenance Garage.
The Board of Supervisors will hold a special Worksession at 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 17 in the Boardroom to discuss the following items: (1) 2022 General Assembly Legislative proposals; (2) Moving the stormwater program from Community Development to Utilities; (3) Proposed Utility rate adjustments for FY ’23 Budget; (4) Fire & EMS staffing proposal; and (5) Police staffing proposal.

An information session on the Virginia Household Water Quality Program will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 1 at the Parks & Recreation Community Center.
A community meeting on drainage issues at King Drive will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, November 1 at the Central Wellness Center.
Prince George School Board meets Monday, November 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom.
Richard Bland College will host the 5th Annual Pecan Festival on Saturday, November 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Pecan Grove.
Prince George Animal Services will have pets for adoption at the Pecan Festival from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6.
The Crater Health District will host community COVID-19 vaccine clinics this month:
- Saturday, November 6, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Prince George High School for adults and children ages 5-11 years.
- Wednesday, November 10, 2-4 p.m. at the Tinsley Charter Clubhouse for Tinsley residents.
A “Building the Foundation for Your New Business” virtual Workshop will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 9.
Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 10 at the Central Wellness Center.
The Recreation Advisory Commission will meet at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, November 10 at the Parks & Recreation Community Center.
The 10th Annual Riverside Community Criminal Justice Board Appreciation Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, November 12 at the Beacon Theatre.
The Prince George Public Safety Foundation will hold a fundraising dinner and auction at 6:30 Saturday, November 13 at the Moose Lodge in Hopewell.
The Senior Task Force will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, November 15 in the Community Room of the Social Services Building.
Congressman McEachin will hold a “Virtual Mobile McEachin” by appointment, on Wednesday, November 17 from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Fort Lee Civilian Military Council will meet at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, November 18 at Keystone Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights.
The Appomattox River Water & South Central Wastewater authorities will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 18 at the Petersburg offices.
The James River Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Directors will meet virtually at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 18.
The “Best of the Best” Awards Night sponsored by LNNUSA Newspaper will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 18 at the Petersburg Country Club.
The Prince George Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, November 18 in the Boardroom.
The Crater Youth Care Commission will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 19 at the Green House facility.
The Petersburg Area Regional Tourism (PART) Board meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 19 at the Crater Planning District offices in Petersburg.
Here is a capsule glance of other activities that will be happening within County government during the month of November:
- The Board of Supervisors at its November 9 meeting will hold a public hearing to sell County owned property located in River’s Edge subdivision on Buxton Street.
- The Board of Supervisors at its November 9 meeting will receive two reports: (1) VDOT; and (2) Exit 45 Strategic Plan.
- The Board of Supervisors at its November 9 meeting will consider an Award of Contract for Grounds Maintenance Services.
- The Board of Supervisors at its November 9 meeting will consider an advertisement for a public hearing on an ordinance amendment regarding naming of streets.
- The Board of Supervisors at its November 9 meeting will consider an appropriation from Fund Balance and additional bond proceeds in the amount of $780,401 for the new elementary school project.
- The Board of Supervisors at its November 23 meeting will hold two public hearings: (1) Schedule of charges for animals confined at the Animal Center; and (2) Officers of election shall be retained by the County as independent contractors.
Here is a capsule glance of other activities that will be happening within County government during the month of November.
- The Route 460 water main extension is 99 percent complete; and the Route 156 water main extension is 99 percent complete.
- Scopes of work are being developed for the Circuit Courtroom in the County Courthouse; and repairs to the Heritage Center.
- Parks & Recreation will be wrapping up fall sports and continue advertising for winter sports this month.
- Consultants will begin this month in developing an overall strategic plan for Prince George County.
- Staff will continue to address water and stormwater issues at Cedarwood and Baxter Ridge subdivisions.
- Staff will continue to analyze the wastewater solution approved by the BOS at its September 28 meeting.
