6,918 more people tested for flu during week ending January 9 than previous week

6,918 more people were tested for the flu in the U.S. during the week ending January 9 than were tested the previous week, according to numbers being reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The majority of people who tested positive for the flu during the week ending January 9 tested positive for type B influenza, with a total of 98 people infected. 34 tested positive for type A.

The week ending January 9 was the 1st week of 2021. In the same week of 2020, there were 69,360 people tested, 10,183 more than in 2021.

There is an influenza division of the CDC whose responsibility it is to keep track of influenza activity year round. This group compiles and analyzes known cases in order to help states and local governments respond accordingly. Figures can change and counts can be adjusted as new information is learned from each patient.
