The median income of Chester residents was an inflation-adjusted $32,544 per year. Chester had 8,132 households in 2017, with a population of 21,957.

The city with the highest median resident income in the state was McLean. McLean's median income was $89,224 per year after adjusting for inflation – $56,680 more than Chester. It had 16,506 households in 2017 and a population of 47,305.
