SEC’s golf tourney tees off for scholarships
Golfers are invited to play in next month’s Opportunity Fund Golf Classic, which is hosted by Southside Electric Cooperative and funds scholarships for local high school graduates headed for higher education.
The captain’s choice tournament will be played Thursday, June 30, at the picturesque and challenging Lake Chesdin Golf Club in Chesterfield County. Registration/warmup will run from 8:45-9:45 a.m. with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. The day will conclude with a reception featuring raffle prizes and awards for the top teams.
Teams are asked to sign up by June 17th .
A foursome package for this year’s tournament includes carts, driving range balls, boxed lunch with three drink tickets for each golfer, raffle tickets, mulligans and the awards reception, all for $500 a team.
Several sponsorship levels are available, beginning at $200 and all bringing valuable marketing returns to the donors, including signage and banners at the tournament and being able to distribute logoed items to the golfers. Organizers also welcome prize donations for the tournament raffle, including gift cards and merchandise. All donors will be recognized.
All the money raised by the event will support Southside Opportunity Fund scholarships for graduating high school seniors who receive electricity at their homes from SEC and are headed to a college/university or trade/technical school this fall. The tournament has helped provide 141 scholarships totaling $163,000 since 2016.
The tournament returns this year after not being held the last two due to the pandemic.
