Prince George County officials announced on April 28 that all non-emergency phone lines at the Emergency Communications Center are currently experiencing a complete outage.

The outage means residents who need to report non-emergency Police, Fire, or EMS incidents must call an alternative number, 804-722-8778. The county said staff are working to resolve the issue and emphasized that emergency services remain available. “This outage does not impact 911 services. Residents should continue to dial 911 in the event of a true emergency,” officials said.

The announcement comes as Prince George County Public Schools District reported an enrollment of 6,181 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education. Prince George High School had the highest enrollment among the seven schools in the county with 1,818 students for that period.

Demographic data from last school year shows white students made up the largest ethnic group in county schools with 2,765 students (44.7%), followed by Black students at 1,880 (30.4%), as reported by the Virginia Department of Education.

Enrollment across all Prince George County schools increased by about 1.2% compared to the previous year’s total of 6,106 students, according to state education records. North Elementary School enrolled both the largest number of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students during this time—46 pre-kindergarteners (27.7% of all such students) and 119 kindergarteners (25.1%), based on information from the Virginia Department of Education.

County staff continue efforts to restore normal communications for non-emergency situations while maintaining uninterrupted access for emergencies.
