The Prince George County Farmers’ Market will open for its fourteenth season on May 2, according to an April 29 announcement. The event will take place at 6380 Scott Park Memorial Drive and feature Youth Entrepreneur Day along with tomato planting activities sponsored by the Prince George Master Gardeners.

The market is set to highlight local vendors offering produce, honey, bread, plants, and handcrafted items. Organizers said the market will continue programs such as the income-based Senior Farm Nutrition Program for residents aged sixty and older who qualify for $50 worth of free fruits and vegetables. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) matching incentives through Virginia Fresh Match will also be available for fresh fruits and vegetables.

A range of activities are planned throughout the season, including Scaly Tails RVA, Juneteenth Day, Kids Day, First Responders Day, Wellness Day, and a Fall Festival. The Power of Produce (POP) Club returns this year for children ages three to twelve; each week from 10 a.m. until noon participants can earn vouchers and receive free fruits and vegetables. Some weeks include a two-bite challenge where children can try new foods.

The event is supported by partnerships with local vendors as well as sponsors like the Prince George Farm Bureau and PG Master Gardeners. Events such as tomato and pumpkin planting contests are among those sponsored this season.
