Glen Sturtevant, a Republican elected to the Virginia State Senate in 2024 representing the 12th district, has outlined his legislative priorities in a series of tweets posted on January 19, 2026. Sturtevant emphasized efforts by Republicans to address affordability and reduce taxes for Virginians.
In one tweet, Sturtevant stated, “Here is what we are doing instead: practical solutions that put money back in your pocket. Republicans are fighting to end the car tax and eliminate the grocery tax. We are advancing serious reforms to lower power bills and reduce the cost of car insurance.” (January 19, 2026).
He continued his message on policy focus with another post: “We have a better way, and it’s focused on affordability, safety, and growth—not politics for politics’ sake.” (January 19, 2026).
Expanding on specific tax proposals, Sturtevant wrote: “We’re fighting to repeal the car tax, permanently end the grocery tax, protect the increased standard deduction, and eliminate tax on tips and overtime, because working harder should not mean being taxed more.” (January 19, 2026).
Sturtevant was elected to represent Virginia’s 12th Senate district after defeating Siobhan Dunnavant in the 2024 election.
