Glen Sturtevant, a Republican elected to the Virginia State Senate in 2024 representing the state’s 12th Senate district, has used his social media platform to criticize state policies related to tax breaks for technology companies and legislative priorities.

On March 12, 2026, Sturtevant posted: “Giving a $2 billion tax break every year to the richest tech companies in the world, and forcing middle class Virginians to pay for it, is not making data centers ‘pay their fair share.'”

Later that day, he expanded on his criticism with another post: “Increase Virginians’ electric bills to power the data centers. Now add more taxes to their paychecks and undermine their Second Amendment rights. Raise the legislators’ pay by 300%.

Now tell them the $2 billion for Big Tech donors and data centers is necessary for Virginia to”

In a separate tweet on March 12, Sturtevant questioned judicial outcomes in an unrelated case: “Why the hell wasn’t this guy denaturalized and deported? How did he barely serve any time?”

Sturtevant succeeded Siobhan Dunnavant as senator for Virginia’s 12th district after winning election in 2024.
