Glen Sturtevant, a Virginia state senator, posted a series of tweets on September 20, 2025, addressing topics related to healthcare and political opponents.
In one post, Sturtevant criticized Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, writing: “Another Spanberger Word Salad. She is all-in on guys in girls’ locker rooms and sports. She can’t walk away from the extremists in her party, so she runs from reporters.” (September 20, 2025). Later that day, he questioned Spanberger’s stance on gender identity issues with another tweet: “Can Spanberger define what a woman is? Asking for all Virginians.” (September 20, 2025).
Sturtevant also commented on healthcare labor practices and compensation for medical professionals. He wrote: “Hire American doctors and pay residents better! Stop cutting costs in direct patient care just so private equity can make higher profits!” (September 20, 2025).
The debate over transgender participation in sports and access to facilities has been ongoing at both state and national levels. Lawmakers across the United States have introduced legislation concerning the inclusion of transgender individuals in athletics and public spaces traditionally separated by gender. Additionally, concerns about private equity involvement in healthcare have drawn attention from policymakers who argue that profit motives may negatively impact patient care and working conditions for medical staff.
Spanberger represents Virginia’s 7th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
