Glen Sturtevant, a Virginia state senator, used his social media platform to comment on recent political developments and a gubernatorial debate in Virginia. Sturtevant’s posts, published on October 9 and 10, 2025, addressed issues ranging from federal legislation to moments during the debate.

On October 9, 2025, Sturtevant criticized Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger’s support for a key piece of federal legislation, writing: “Spanberger voted for Biden’s ‘Inflation Reduction’ Act, which bloated federal spending while giving so little to Virginia. She has proven she is unwilling to prioritize the Commonwealth. #VAGovDebate #vapol”.

In a subsequent post later that evening, Sturtevant referenced a well-known political moment by stating: “Dukakis moment. https://t.co/5cOgOh9ejh” (October 10, 2025).

Shortly afterward, he followed up with another comment related to the debate, asking: “Anybody have debate video of the voiceover reading of the text messages? That was wild.” (October 10, 2025).

The “Inflation Reduction Act,” referenced in Sturtevant’s first tweet, was a major piece of legislation passed in 2022 under President Joe Biden’s administration. The law aimed to address inflation through measures including deficit reduction and investment in energy and healthcare. While some supporters have argued that the act provides benefits nationally and within states like Virginia, critics such as Sturtevant have claimed that it led to increased federal spending with limited direct benefit to specific states.

The “Dukakis moment” mentioned by Sturtevant alludes to a widely discussed event from the 1988 U.S. presidential campaign involving Michael Dukakis, whose response to a debate question was seen as damaging to his candidacy and has since become shorthand for pivotal debate missteps.

Glen Sturtevant represents parts of Richmond and Chesterfield County in the Virginia Senate. His recent posts reflect ongoing debates in Virginia politics about federal policy impacts and the performance of elected officials at both state and national levels.
