Glen Sturtevant, a Republican elected to the Virginia State Senate in 2024 to represent the state’s 12th Senate district, has posted a series of statements on his Twitter account criticizing actions and decisions related to crime and university admissions in Virginia.

On March 13, 2026, Sturtevant wrote: “We will never let the disturbed Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney come after these brave and courageous ODU students. They are Virginia heroes “

Later that day, he questioned Old Dominion University’s (ODU) decision-making process regarding student admissions: “We need an explanation from ODU leadership how a convicted Islamic terrorist got admitted as a student there.

Did ODU know of his criminal history involving ISIS? If not, how did they miss it? Was it ignorance, or “restorative justice” nonsense?” The post raised concerns about whether the university was aware of the individual’s background and if broader policies influenced the admission.

On March 14, 2026, Sturtevant commented on crime rates in Virginia: “The Spanberger Crime Spree is getting out of control. Criminals understand very well when soft-on-crime politicians are in charge. They are acting accordingly all across Virginia.”

Sturtevant succeeded Siobhan Dunnavant as state senator for Virginia’s 12th district following his election in 2024.
