Glen Sturtevant, a Virginia State Senator, shared his views on issues ranging from nursing home management to housing and electoral practices in a series of posts on X in August 2025.
On August 14, 2025, Sturtevant commented on the operation of nursing homes, writing “Interesting…Another example of this nursing home shell game.” The phrase “nursing home shell game” refers to complex ownership structures that can obscure accountability in the industry.
Later that day, Sturtevant addressed concerns about potential changes to Virginia’s redistricting process. He stated, “Virginia Dems are going to bring back gerrymandering if they get the chance. That’s been made clear. It’s an attack on our democracy and undermines our institutions. We can’t let them take us backwards “ His comments reflect ongoing debates in Virginia over political district boundaries and their impact on representative democracy.
On August 15, 2025, Sturtevant turned his attention to generational dynamics in the housing market. He wrote, “We need the boomers to hold off on the second and third houses for a bit. Let the kids have a chance.” This post references intergenerational competition for housing, which has become a prominent topic amid affordability challenges for younger buyers.
The issues highlighted by Sturtevant have drawn attention at both state and national levels. Nursing home oversight remains under scrutiny as policymakers examine how corporate arrangements affect care quality and transparency. In Virginia, redistricting has been contentious since the establishment of a bipartisan commission in 2020 aimed at curbing partisan gerrymandering; however, debates persist about possible changes to these reforms. Housing affordability continues to be a significant concern nationwide as rising prices and limited inventory create barriers for first-time buyers.
