CSX Transportation announced on April 17 that the Oak Grove Road railroad crossing in Dinwiddie County will be fully closed from Tuesday, April 21 at 8:00 AM until Thursday, April 23 at 5:00 PM due to emergency track repairs. The closure is required after a broken rail was identified at the site.
The total closure means no traffic will be allowed across the tracks during this period. Drivers in Prince George County and Dinwiddie County are advised to expect detour signage, rerouting, and longer travel times. Closure dates may change if weather or other field conditions require adjustments. CSX said updates will be provided as needed and urged drivers to avoid the area if possible and plan alternate routes in advance.
This repair work could impact families and students traveling within Prince George County, where the public schools district enrolled a total of 6,181 students during the 2023-24 school year according to the Virginia Department of Education. Among these schools, Prince George High School had the highest enrollment with 1,818 students during that same period according to state data.
Demographic information shows that white students made up the largest ethnic group in county schools with 2,765 students (44.7% of enrollment), followed by Black students who accounted for 1,880 (30.4%) as reported by education officials. Total enrollment increased by about 1.2% compared to last year’s figure of 6,106 according to official records.
North Elementary School played a significant role among early learners by enrolling both the largest number of pre-kindergarten students—46 children or about one-quarter of all pre-K enrollments—and kindergarteners with a count of 119 or roughly one-quarter as well according to state data.
