Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) has announced that its annual fall marching band exhibition will take place at 6:25 p.m. on October 6 at Thomas Dale High School’s stadium. This event will feature performances from drumlines, brass, woodwinds, and color guards representing all district high schools.
According to a news release by CCPS, admission to the exhibition is free, with a rain date set for October 13. The event will commence with the national anthem performed by middle school bands from Carver, Elizabeth Davis, Falling Creek, and Matoaca.
High school performances are scheduled to follow in a specific order: Meadowbrook, Bird, Manchester, Matoaca, Monacan, James River, Cosby, Midlothian, Clover Hill, and Thomas Dale bands. The evening will conclude with a performance by Virginia State University’s Trojan Explosion Marching Band. Recognized as “The Best Band in the CIAA,” this group is expected to deliver a high-energy finale to the showcase.
Virginia State University’s Trojan Explosion Marching Band is noted as the university’s largest student organization. It includes instrumentalists, dancers, flag corps members, twirlers, and drum majors. The band has an extensive performance history along the East Coast and has appeared at notable events such as the Honda Battle of the Bands and NBC’s Today Show.
Chesterfield County Public Schools serves over 64,000 students across 67 schools with a $1 billion budget. The district reports a 91% on-time graduation rate with approximately 4,700 graduates annually and significant scholarship awards. CCPS includes seven National Blue Ribbon Schools among other accolades and operates under the strategic plan Imagine Beyond Tomorrow to foster lifelong learning and prepare students for college and careers.
