Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) has announced that residents interested in serving on school board advisory committees must apply by December 3, 2025. Applicants are required to reside in the district they wish to represent.
According to CCPS, the advisory committees provide a platform for community members, including parents, teachers, staff, and students, to engage with schools and support the district’s objectives. Members are appointed from each of the five magisterial districts and participate in regularly scheduled committee meetings.
Interested individuals must apply by the specified deadline for available seats on various committees such as Audit and Finance, Career and Technical Education, School Health, and Special Education. Some positions are partial-term appointments, and certain roles require relevant experience or a personal connection to the schools.
The Chesterfield County School Board oversees policy decisions for Chesterfield County Public Schools. It is responsible for budget approval, superintendent hiring and evaluation, as well as appeals related to discipline and grievances. The board comprises one member from each of the county’s five magisterial districts who serve four-year terms expiring on December 31, 2027. The board elects a chair and vice chair annually in January. Meetings are held at the Public Meeting Room on Iron Bridge Road and are broadcasted locally as well as livestreamed online.
CCPS serves over 64,000 students across 67 schools with a $1 billion budget. The district boasts full accreditation with a 91% on-time graduation rate, approximately 4,700 graduates annually, and millions in scholarship awards. It includes seven National Blue Ribbon Schools among other accolades. Governed by a five-member School Board, CCPS adheres to its strategic plan “Imagine Beyond Tomorrow” aimed at promoting lifelong learning and preparing college- and career-ready graduates.
