Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) has announced that community members have until September 4 to apply for positions on School Board advisory committees.

According to CCPS, these advisory committees include parents, teachers, staff, students, and other community members from each of the county’s five magisterial districts. Applicants must reside in the district they wish to represent and can serve on specific committees such as the Audit and Finance Committee (Bermuda District, July 1, 2025–June 30, 2027), Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee (Dale District, July 1, 2025–June 30, 2028), and the School Health Advisory Board. The latter includes seats for the Dale District (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2028), Matoaca District (partial term ending June 30, 2027), and a family wellness expert (partial term ending June 30, 2026).

CCPS uses these advisory committees to foster connections between community members and local schools. Each committee is composed of parents, teachers, staff, students, and other residents from the county’s five magisterial districts. Members provide input on various topics including programs and budgets while guiding initiatives in areas such as audit and finance, career and technical education, gifted education, special education, school health, and environmental stewardship.

Specific committees focus on different aspects of the school system. For instance, the Audit and Finance Committee reviews budgets and financial reports; the Career and Technical Education Committee supports workforce development and curriculum initiatives; while the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee advises on resource allocation. Other committees are tasked with monitoring gifted and special education programs or developing health policies. Each committee submits reports and recommendations to the School Board to aid in planning and decision-making.

Chesterfield County Public Schools serves over 64,000 students across its network of 67 schools with a $1 billion budget. The district boasts full accreditation with a reported on-time graduation rate of 91%, approximately producing around 4,700 graduates annually who receive millions in scholarship awards. It includes seven National Blue Ribbon Schools among its accolades along with eight National ESEA Distinguished Schools. Additionally recognized are multiple Middle Schools to Watch as well as seventeen Virginia Index of Performance awardees. Annually within CCPS’s operations: buses cover nine million miles; over nine million meals are served; more than sixty-four thousand devices are utilized by students.

The district is governed by a five-member School Board following its strategic plan “Imagine Beyond Tomorrow,” which aims at promoting lifelong learning alongside personal growth towards preparing college- or career-ready graduates.
